You’re all enrolled, orientation’s wrapped. That crisp new student ID, emblazoned with your school’s logo, is tucked safely in your wallet. Nothing lessens the blow of a $5,000 tuition bill quite like a free drink at Chipotle.
Let’s delve into all the discounts the world offers to college students – a sort of way to say “there, there” to the destitute paupers of society.
Amazon offers a targeted version of their Prime service called PrimeStudent. With a valid .edu email, you’ll get free two-day shipping on Amazon, streaming access to countless movies and TV shows, and free unlimited photo storage, which is (in my opinion) an enormously underrated plus. You’ll also get a $5 credit for every friend you refer, as will your friend.
The free trial is 6 months, after which they automatically upgrade you to full AmazonPrime, at 50% off the normal price. Feel free to cancel at any time.
FedEx offers a 20-30% discount on shipping for students, depending on the size and type of item. You only need to flash them your student ID for this one.
Apple is having a promotion for students in which they throw in a free pair of wireless Beats by Dre with every purchase of a Mac, iPad, or iPhone. Their discounts to students are not tremendous – compare $849 for a Macbook Pro to $899 regular price. But the Beats are quite the legit bonus.
This one is a bit superficial, but most Chipotles in university districts offer a free soft drink with a student ID.
(As if we don’t all ask for a water cup and then fill it with Dr. Pepper.)
If you opt not to buckle to exorbitant airline prices, Greyhound is a practical alternative. Greyhound, along with several other companies, offers the Student Advantage card. The card itself costs $20 plus shipping, but with it, you get 20% off standard bus fare and 40% off their shipping services. You can buy the card online or at a Greyhound terminal.
Other businesses that accept the card include Target.com, Lyft, and AMC Theaters.
Adobe offers two plans at a 60% discount to students (ages 13 and up) and teachers.
The All Apps plan, which gives you the latest versions of every Adobe program — including Photoshop CC and Illustrator CC, comes in at $19.99 a month.
The Photography plan, which includes Photoshop CC and Lightroom for all your image editing and photo-based projects, costs just $9.99 a month.
CheapOAir already graciously caters to those in the lower tax brackets and I highly recommend them for when you’re arranging that flight back home or your spring break trip to Rocky Point. They already function on a platform of affordability but they go above and beyond for students. Student travelers between the ages of 16 and 25 have the option to select “Youth” instead of “Adult” when searching the website, and automatic discounts are applied to their already heavily discounted fare.
Topshop offers a year-round 10% student discount via StudentBeans, an independent website that deals exclusively in student discounts. All you’ll need is a student email.
Best Buy offers a program called College Student Deals. Sign up with your .edu email and you’ll be provided with exclusive deals and coupon codes.
