Whether you are a student at UF or just visiting friends for the weekend, there are a plethora of things to do in Gainesville. Right in the heart of Gainesville at the University of Florida, there are some notable attractions to check out. When you’re planning your visit to Gainesville, be sure to visit these 5 places as they will sure turn your day into one to remember.
Located in the heart of the University of Florida campus, this elegant and picturesque setting is built with soaring windows, marble floors and delicate materials which illuminate the peaceful Florida surroundings. Many private events are also held here such as weddings and memorial ceremonies and typically seats around 100 people.
Have you ever wondered of seeing bats flying in the skies in Florida? Well, you don’t have to go very far to see them. Filled with many benches for sightseeing, this popular attraction brings many people to experience the thrill of seeing thousands of bats emerging right after sunset. The most common bat species here is the Brazilian free-tailed bat. The best time for observing the emergence of bats is right after sunset during spring to early summer.
Opened in 1990 on the campus of the University of Florida, this free exhibition features more than 9,000 collections of artwork ranging from African, Asian to modern and contemporary art and photography representing Ancient America. Not only does this attraction contain a diverse selection of exemplary collections and innovative exhibits, but it is also free to the public. There is also a café for a lunch break overlooking the beautiful gardens surrounding the museum.
Also known as the “Swamp” and home to the University of Florida Football team, this football stadium is one of the most historic in all of the country and is one of the loudest on game days. Going to a Gator game during the season will be one of the best experiences of your life and surely one to remember. Make sure to bring some school spirit and cheer on those Gators.
This so called monument and one of the most identifiable features at the University of Florida, is a 157 foot tower located in the center of campus. Near the top of the tower, are 61 bells that ring every 15 minutes by during the school day. Two daily recitals at 12:35 and 4:55 while class is in session are played by human beings. The old school joke says that every time a virgin graduates from UF, a brick falls off the tower.
