Gainesville has a hugely diverse cluster of restaurants to satisfy even the pickiest eater. So, regardless of whether you’re just stopping in or if you’re looking for a new favorite spot around the University of Florida, this comprehensive list includes restaurants of the best quality that won’t break the bank. So… What are you in the mood for?

Italian – Satchel’s

Satchel's Pizza World renowned (or maybe just Gainesville renowned), Satchels is a one of a kind family owned restaurant that values each individual customer and hand makes their pizza with lots of love. The place is really unique and groovy, and you can even eat in the 1965 Ford Falcon van shown in the photo! They also have a ‘junk museum’ that features permanent exhibits and guest exhibits if you’re into that sort of thing. Gluten-free and vegan options are also available.

Italian – Big Lou’s Pizzeria

Big Lou's Located in the heart of downtown, Big Lou’s is a delicious-and not to mention moderately priced-pizzeria. I can personally vouch for the white pizza, which features a unique blend of white cheeses and fresh garlic. For those of us who cannot or choose not to indulge in gluten and dairy-filled products, Lou’s also offers gluten free and vegan options.

Sushi/Asian Cuisine – Sushi Chao

Sushi Chao Sushi Chao is a little Asian cuisine restaurant with a futuristic feel. This awesome little place features a weigh-and-pay style and bubble teas, which are apparently delicious. But my favorite thing to get is their eight piece sushi roll for $5.95; the quality is remarkable and the price is unbeatable! If you’re looking to go the sushi route, go for Sushi Saturdays for a buy one get one free classic eight piece roll.

Subs/Sandwiches – Larry’s Giant Subs

Larry's Giant Subs Larry’s offers every type of sub a person could wish for; hot subs, chicken breast subs, Italian subs, etc. With spectacular specialty salads and soups (say that five times fast), Larry’s really has it all, including some great dessert options. They pride themselves on the fact that their meat is all natural and antibiotic free, so you can rest easy. Also, for those with gluten intolerance, Larry’s has great gluten free bread!

Indian – Krishna Lunch

Krishna-Lunch Always vegetarian and vegan by request, Krishna Lunch offers an unrivaled dining experience. For a mere $5 donation, you can have as much Krishna lunch as your heart desires. Also, if you’re a student at UF, volunteering to hand out lunch can mean a free lunch for you! Krishna Lunch is on UF campus in the Plaza of the Americas from 11a-1:30p, otherwise Krishna lunch can be ordered for delivery or picked up at the Krishna House.

Cuban Cuisine – Flaco’s Cuban Bakery & Coffee

Flaco's Cuban Bakery & Coffee Growing up near Miami (aka Little Havana) has fostered my love for Cuban food and my addiction to coffee. Coming to Gainesville was a huge change of scene, but once I found Flaco’s Bakery, I immediately knew that this would be my Cuban fix for the next four to six years. I cannot promise you gluten free options, but I can promise the most delicious indulgent Cuban food you’ve had in a long time at a very fair price.

Barbeque – Adam’s Rib Co.

Adams Rib Co

With raving reviews on Yelp, Adam’s Rib Co. has been praised for its “huge fall off the bone ribs” and “great, local, casual” atmosphere. This barbeque palace features friendly service and a ceiling mural that is affectionately referred to as the Sistine Chapel of the Gators. With large portions and great sides such as okra and cornbread, Adam’s is a local gem just waiting to be found!
