Go all out this year for everyone’s gift this holiday season without running your checking account dry with these 4 DIY Christmas presents from a few inventive bloggers that can be made from items and ingredients that you may even already have in your kitchen cupboards. Everything on this list will score you some major originality points without having to put in a lot of time or money on your part.

Rainbow Cake in a Jar

Cake in a Jar

It’s not everyday that rainbows of sweet, fluffy decadence simultaneously make their way into an 8oz mason jar, so I felt obligated to include this idea at the top of my list. Rainbow Cake in a jar is an irresistible twist on the traditional cupcake and is still relatively simple to make.

Learn how to forge this masterpiece and prepare to start bringing rainbows into people’s lives this Christmas. Literally.

Peppermint Sugar Scrub

Peppermint Sugar Scrub

If you have a skincare fanatic to shop for this Christmas, but you view a trip to the mall about as enjoyable as plucking out your fingernails one by one, you’re not out of luck! There is no need to submit yourself to that kind of torture, because you’re just 3 ingredients away from concocting this rejuvenating peppermint face and body scrub from Jessica’s crafty blog. To make this peppermint face and body scrub blend together 1/2 cup of coconut oil, 1/2 cup of sugar, and 10 drops of peppermint essential oils in a large mixing bowl with a spoon. The coconut oil does a brilliant job of moisturizing skin, while the sugar makes for a great exfoliator, and the peppermint adds a refreshing kick. Pour into a 6 oz mason jar, seal with a lid, and tie a string of bakers twine around the lid with a candy cane for a festive touch.

Watercolor Coffee Mugs

Water Color Mug

These watercolor coffee mugs from Free People blogger Jana add a splash of color and creative brilliance to the classic coffee mug Xmas gift! All you’ll need for this one is a porcelain mug, some porcelain paint, a paint brush, water and an oven. Take a wet paint brush and a little paint in your favorite color(s) to a white porcelain mug and let your creativity flow. Add more or less water depending on how much you want the paint to run. After letting your mug dry, place it in the oven for 10 minutes at 350 degrees to let the paint set and prevent chipping.

Tea Time Package

Offset the cold with this cozy DIY Tea Time bundle from blogger Tonia! Throw together an assortment of afternoon tea essentials, tie some baker’s twine with a free printable label from The Cottage Market around the lid and you’ve got yourself the perfect gift for that person on your shopping list who takes their tea time seriously. Some of the goodies Tonia included in her mason jar (the one featured above) are a few sample packages of tea, a mini jar of honey, a tea infuser and some shortbread cookies.

These 4 DIY gifts are not only easy and fun to put together, they also display a distinct originality that can’t be found on aisle 6. So this holiday season, consider swapping out your annual trip to the shops for an apron and some cozy slippers and prepare to get crafty with these homemade gift ideas all while sparring your debit card of swipes in the process.
