College Life

Attending university can be a life changing experience for setting you up for a successful career in the future. People choose different majors, decide to join a fraternity or even study a semester abroad. While everyone’s college experience can be unique in its own right, everyone can take away many valuable life lessons and skills, not only a good education. There are some things you can take with you for the rest of your life, that never change and shape you into who are.

Here are five valuable life lessons you can take away from your college years:

1. Responsibility

Living away from home for the first time in your life is a big step for someone who has lived at home all their life. Living on your home teaches you to be responsible whether it’s having a part time job, paying your own bills, cooking homemade meals or making sure you dorm room is clean. You will learn to be independent and be able to take care of yourself, without your parents there to help you. You will for once, be responsible for your own actions which can be a hard lesson to grasp for any student.

2. Time Management

Turning assignments in on time and being on top your homework is crucial to succeeding in college and beyond. Learn to develop a balance between school, friends, sports and social commitments. You will encounter difficult situations or even stressful days, but having an organized plan can help you get through these tough times.

3. Having good friends are important

Being surrounded by like-minded people who support you along your college years is beneficial in helping you succeed on every level. Having good friends you can hang out with and people who won’t pressure you into doing things you don’t want to will go a long way in enhancing your college experience and beyond. Classmates, sports teams and clubs are good ways to meet new friends!

4. Effective communication

In college, you will learn how to say certain things and when to say it. Interacting with other students allows you to hone your communication skills, which can affect your career opportunities and make you a deemable candidate when interviewing for a job.

5. Have fun

There is much more to life than just studying all the time. Make sure you still do things you enjoy whether its sports, traveling or even participating in clubs that you enjoy. Let lose a bit and “smell the roses”! You will be grateful you did this when you are tied down in a full time job.
