The 7 Tastiest Mexican Spots in Eugene

What tastes cheesy, avocado-e, and most of all salty? That’s right, Mexican food. I have sifted through nearly every Mexican restaurant in Eugene around the University of Oregon and I am here to share my opinion on whose got the goods and who should be left in the hood.

Burrito Amigos

Burrito Amigos

The best Mexican restaurant in town is Burrito Amigos. Hands down. Burrito Amigos has been around since 1995, and they have certainly made a name for themselves at their multiple restaurants around Eugene. Unlike other Mexican Food chains, there is an authentic taste to their food. The guacamole tastes like an actual avocado and not out of a package like their competitors, El Super Burrito and Burrito Boy. Their Quesedillas are cooked to perfection with a large amount of cheese combined with meat of your choice, and a tinge of sour cream. Another special is the Enchilada which comes with their superb red sauce drizzled across the bean and cheese filled tortilla. Burrito Amigos had updated their look in the past few years. The light pink walls are decorated with black and white photos of famous Mexican artists and painted with outdoor scenery of restaurants. The employees treat their customers with kindness, and there is never a long wait to eat. The cooks are willing to personalize orders, and even give to go boxes that preserve the food. While the prices appear to be on the rise, Burrito Amigos does an excellent job of serving a large portion so it’s always worth it.

Chapala Mexican Restaurant

Head up Willamette street and you’ll find Chapala’s Mexican Restaurant. The selection is big, and the entrees are even bigger! Chapala’s is decorated to the T with clay walls, flowing vines and gorgeous paintings. It’s a beautiful atmosphere for a date or to bring the whole family. Just be prepared to eat, and eat a lot. Like any restaurant, Chapala’s is packed on a Friday night, so you may want to call and make a reservation first.

Burrito Boy

Burrito Boy

College students love Burrito Boy! There’s just something about the one 24 hour Mexican food spot that no drunk person can resist. Their fast paced burrito making skills and their awesome prices has made Burrito Boy a legendary post party place to grab a bite to eat. If you don’t like crowds beware! The off campus Burrito Boy is a drunken food staple known to be packed on the weekends especially between the ours of midnight and 3am. Be prepared for fights, laughter, unexpected faces, and a whole lot of noise. Burrito Boy is great the next hungover morning, but try the food on a sober day, and there’s just something missing. Possibly due to the fact that your taste buds previously lacked judgement.

Qdoba

Close to campus? REALLY hungry? Head on over to Qdoba and customize your burrito. This place always has great coupons in the Student Survival Guide, and their portions are absolutely huge. Qdoba is open late night and close to plenty of bars. They have so many booths, you’ll never be the one who has to sit in a chair. My only critique is the guacomole turns black within an hour of eating it, so either don’t get guac or eat it fast!

Chachi’s Burritos

Has anyone else stopped by the booth, Chachi’s Burritos? This little stand is a few shops down from Qdoba, and it’s slightly cheaper. Chachi has a great selection of healthy options, and the taste is so unique and non-traditional, it’s just so Eugene! Support the locals and check out Chachi’s zesty burritos!

El Super Burrito

El Super Burrito

Craving Taco Bell, but don’t want to go that low? El Super Burrito has some great prices especially on their taco’s! This is one of the newer spots in town, and they are making quite the buzz with their quick service and solid meals. Don’t forget to top your meal with a glass of Horchata!

Tio Pepe

Tio Pepe

Last but not least, try Tio Pepe! This secluded Mexican Restaurant is like a gold mine for Mexican food. They have an energetic atmosphere with comfortable seating, and great service. They even have a bar and the most epic decorations on this list. The restaurant has made a name for themselves for their flavorful salsa and tortilla chips. Next time you are craving a fun greasy time, check out Tio Pepe’s, they never disappoint!

Well there you go, a guide to the best Mexican spots in town. So, stop drooling, and grab yourself a bite of one of these oh, so delicioso burritos!
